If you missed it, Shogun Rua was robbed at gunpoint in Brazil

Imagine this: you and your friends decide to go out for a nice meal. You are having a great night; enjoying your food and the conversation. At the end of the night, after your friends have gone home, and you are about to turn in, you get robbed at gun point. It would suck, wouldn’t it? It would probably be the worst way to cap off a fantastic night — and for Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, it was exactly that.

TMZ reported over the weekend that the former PRIDE standout and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was robbed at gun point by not one, but four men, all with shotguns (or rifles, depending on which website you go on). This all happened after a night out with friends. According to his manager Eduardo Alonso, he had left his friends in Barra da Tijuca, and was driving back in a friend’s car to Niteroi where he was staying. While in Linha Vermelha, he was forced to pull over by not just one, but four armed men.

The men did not just take the car. In fact, do you remember that World Series of Dice skit from the Chappelle’s Show? It was kind of like that. They took his shoes, shirt, money, and left with the car. And to make it more embarrassing for him, one of the robbers recognized him.

“They took his clothes, money, and friend’s car,” said his manager Eduardo Alonso. “They said: ‘I know who you are, you’re a fighter. Don’t try anything.’ It was a sad situation.”

Shoeless, shirtless, and without a ride, Rua had to walk on one of the most dangerous expressways in the city to the nearest police station, since trying to hitchhike a ride back was out of the question (imagine a guy of his size, in the middle of the night, asking you for a ride though?). Luckily, they did not touch a hair on the man’s head.

Despite walking a mile back, Alonso has assured us that it is ‘all good now’, and that Rua will be back in the Octagon soon despite not having a fight lined up yet or being cleared.

Personally, if it was just the one guy who was trying to rob him, Shogun could have easily taken him and probably stomp the yard right there and then. But in this situation – with four armed people – it was smarter to just give them what they wanted, no matter how embarrassing it was.
