It’s a troll job, GSP will not be spokesman for a Fighters Union

One of the true markers of belonging to a group is knowing how to use the language inherent to that group. You can tell a regular MiddleEasy reader in a crowd by writing “Frate Trane”. Those who correct your spelling are not MiddleEasy readers. If it’s impractical to write, such as when you’re throwing alcohol down your throat, you could just drop a Datsik reference. You could do the same thing for MMA in general by shouting “hello Japan!” and checking out which strangers grin. This is how I know that the people writing and delivering the news in all formats are not part of any group I recognize myself being part of. They just can’t seem to get what an internet troll is at all.

While MiddleEasy is already more than just a news site, to demonstrate that we truly are different to the morons who can’t pronounce meme, I will give you a topical explanation of a troll job. Earlier last week some of the more eagle eyed among you may have seen a tweet by Yves Lavigne in which he posted a letter from a man named Joao Alfredo Horta in which he stated that the MMA Fighters Union was set to launch, with their spokesman being none other than Georges St. Pierre.

MMA Fighters Union and George St-Pierre announce launch!

Amsterdam, Netherlands – MMA Fighters Union together with it's ambassador MMA/UFC Fighter George St-Pierre announced today that the MMA Fighters Union is launched.

MMA Fighters Union expect this launch to improve Fighters finance and widen its career base. In addition MMA Fighters Union will support fighters in their negotiations with MMA Promotions.

The launch will permit MMA Fighters use lawyers who work for MMA Fighters Union.

More information is expected to be released following a MMA Fighters Union meeting on January 24, 2014.

Some of you may have already noticed the first red flag here. I’m sure if he read this, Georges would immediately notice that he has been confused with a man called George. Second red flag? Yves Lavigne wasn’t so sure of the legitimacy of this letter.

The translation (thanks Bing!) reads “Just talked to an agent of GSP: the history of the Union is a hoax he said. There is no interview to CNN.”

Bummer. But think about this. If GSP was spearheading a Fighter’s Union, I don’t think we’d hear about it from Yves Lavigne’s Twitter. No offense meant, Yves.

However, this goes back to the point of this being a troll job. You can guarantee the Fighters Union twitter has exploded in followers, and while not a classic troll in the form of someone saying things in a pseudo-Socratic irony way just to upset people, they have certainly got an emotional response across the internet (and UG). Well played fake Fighters Union. Well played.
