Within seconds of Anderson Silva losing to Chris Weidman for a second time, people were already proudly stating that Fedor Emelianenko is by default the MMA GOAT, and there is nothing the UFC can do about it. Despite losing his last three bouts in Strikeforce (and subsequently being kicked out of the promotion because of it), I always thought Fedor was the unequivocal GOAT of MMA. The last three fights he had in M-1 Global and Japan against Pedro Rizzo, Satoshi Ishii, and Jeff Monson (which he obviously won) were the equivalent of Michael Jordan coming back to the NBA and playing for the Washington Wizards — sure they counted, but no one really cared. Fedor’s legacy was established before then, and that’s why he will go down as the greatest. As far as Anderson Silva, he’s the UFC GOAT. If anyone disagrees with me then they will need to direct all the inquiries to @BloodstainLane.
While Fedor may be retired from MMA, he superhuman-like biceps still need a creative outlet — and that’s where Japan’s ‘Giant Killing 3’ arm-wrestling competition comes in. The event went down December 30th in Japan (which was this morning in North America) and it featured a cast of characters that pitted the disciplines of karate vs. MMA. At least that was the event’s theme.
It appears Fedor mowed through his first two competitors, but he was stopped by Bob Sapp in the final. Yes, you read every word of that correct. Bob ‘The Beast’ Sapp stopped Fedor.
