Yesterday I actually had a half-hour phone conversation with Keith Kizer, the head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Except it wasn’t about TRT and how the public believes it’s a legalized way to ‘cheat’ in MMA. Nah, not at all. It was strictly about marijuana in MMA and it was for a feature-length article in High Times magazine. There’s a plethora of information Kizer revealed to me yesterday, and all of it will make your day brighter. If you want to know what it is, be sure to pick up the issue of High Times magazine that has my article on marijuana in MMA — whenever I’m finished with the article, that is. Hopefully this weekend if I can STOP PLAYING CANDY CRUSH. My god this game.
If any of you believe TRT is a performance enhancing drug and athletes are using it under the guise of a medical exemption when in reality it’s benefiting their fight game, then perhaps before you put that $100 on UFC 164 you should know that Ben Rothwell and Frank Mir will be on the juicy stuff during their fight.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services confirmed the news with Steve Marrocco of MMAJunkie this week that Frank Mir and Ben Rothwell have received TRT exemptions for their UFC 164 fight. Currently Ben Rothwell is +105 against Brandon Vera and Frank Mir is also a +155 underdog against the Warmaster, Josh Barnett. Also, props to Ben Rothwell for finally leaving the Portuguese-to-English translation game and actually taking an MMA fight.
Update: It appears the The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services can’t disclose that the exemption Frank Mir and Ben Rothwell received was TRT due to medically confidentiality — but I’m sure most of you can deduce the obvious.
