Kevin Smiths loves the nipple-less Batfleck suit

The ending of Lost. A BJ Penn fight decision. Ben Affleck playing Batman. The category here is quite clearly “Things that really piss off the internet.”  I mean come on, it is just ridiculous to think that a handsome billionaire with a strong jaw line could ever pull off the role of Bruce Wayne, right? Ever since the announcement that it would be Affleck putting on the cape and cowl this time around the fanboys have been out in force, right Steve-Dave? A lot against the casting, a lot for it, and mostly just a lot of people making really lame and unoriginal jokes. We get it, you like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Please stop bombarding social media with your praises of Affleck’s performance in Phantoms.

During one of the one thousand four hundred and twenty six podcasts that he hosts, filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed that not only has he seen what the new Batman costume looks like in the Man of Steel sequel, but he has seen Ben Affleck IN the suit. Sometimes a preposition in the right place can make all of the difference in the world. Here’s what Smith had to say about the caped crusader’s new threads:

“I saw the costume, more than that I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrix-y black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this [EXPLETIVE DELETED]ing suit man. I think everyone is gonna be like ‘Holy Shit!’ We haven’t been down this path before. Even the Hardest core “[EXPLETIVE DELETED] this movie” person will be like ‘alright, I’m ready!’”

The most interesting part is that Smith censored himself when discussing the suit’s influence by saying, “It seemed very [BEEP] influenced.” This isn’t the first time that Smith has edited out a part of one of his podcasts to avoid airing a spoiler – he did on Fatman on Batman when Grant Morrison revealed that Damian Wayne was about to meet his maker (literally and figuratively).  I know, I know spoiler alert! But come on, it’s been months…and DC spoiled it waaay before anyone else on the internet did. Spoiler alert(?) – the wrong kid died.

Who knows what reference Smith was making. Dude is no stranger to Bat-lore, and is pretty well versed in the mythology of the Batman. The obvious choice is that he was saying either “Dark Knight Returns” or “Frank Miller” as that story has been pointed to as a big influence on the upcoming film, but maybe he was doing some more “Widening Gyre” product placement.  Anything Miller is awesome because it brings the “Red Batman is now regular Batman” jokes back into the discussion (Yes, I too am susceptible to the urge to make shitty internet jokes). Curiously enough, Smith’s strange expectations of internet acceptance might explain his disdain towards film critics…

Let us know what you think…about where the new costume might be taking its inspiration from, not about Bat-Fleck. We already know how you feel about Bat-Fleck and [SPOILER ALERT] we don’t care. Actually, I’m just having a lot of fun typing out “Bat-Fleck.”

Bat-Fleck.
