When your nickname is ‘Lil Heathen’ you get hauled off to jail less than 8 hours prior to fighting at UFC on FX 5

Seems like guys who go by nicknames that start with ‘Lil’ (a shortened version of the word ‘Little’) are pretty good at emulating whatever their nickname is. Take ‘Lil Wayne’ for example- he is little and his real name is Dwayne. His nickname fits him perfectly. Then there’s that rapper guy named ‘Lil Scrappy’. At first I thought, ‘why is this guy named Lil Scrappy? Does it mean he is a scrappy fighter?’ But I found a video from one of those trashy waste of human DNA vh1 shows that proves ‘Lil Scrappy’ isn’t so scrappy when it comes to fighting. He does look very much like Scooby Doo’s little nephew Scrappy Doo though so in this case, again-very appropriate nickname.

This brings us to the world of MMA and Jeremy ‘Lil Heathen’ Stephens. Up until just about an hour ago I had no idea why Jeremy Stephens was referred to as ‘Lil Heathen’. You guys probably didn’t either. But if you find yourself getting arrested for an out of state felony warrant by Minnesota Sheriff officers less than 8 hours before you are supposed to fight at UFC on FX 5, I’d have to say your nickname suits you well. It seems this is exactly what happened to Jeremy Stephens at about 11am today, just hours before he was supposed to be at the arena checking in and warming up for his fight tonight.

It is still unknown what Stephens was arrested for exactly and at first reports it looked as though his fight with our pal Yves Edwards was going to be scrapped from tonight’s FX card, but MMAFighting.com is reporting that Ariel Helwani has recieved text confirmation from Dana White that the fight will still go on. BUT at the time of this story, Minnesota authorities have yet to release Stephens though and the FX prelims start in less than 3 hours. Looks like Stephens might be making a mad dash to the arena with a county jail identification bracelet to go along with his backstage fighter indentification bracelet. Will he make it? We still don’t officially know! [Source]

***UPDATE- The Jeremy Stephens fight has been removed from the UFC on FX 5 Fight Card.***
