Organizing a tournament is not as easy as it looks. After two qualifying rounds just to get into the tournament and 3 weeks of marketing, fighter negotiations and event coordination we lost 2 fighters in the eleventh hour due to a tooth being knocked out and an extreme illness. Throw in the fact that another participant had to bow out because he ships off to bootcamp today (good luck and thanks Taz) It’s a testament to the Sunday Night Fights roster depth and all of you guys reading that we were able to get this GP off the ground. Some people didn’t think we could pull it off, but Zeus’s Grandma was wrong, here we stand just moments away from the most important MMA videogame tournament in the history of life on this planet. Eight digital men are about to step into a cage for glory, honor and a chance to fight the MiddleEasy champion Tha Premiere.
Right now, the humans controlling those digiital avatars are hitting the pads backstage warming up, talking to family, maybe reflecting. Much like the roster of the real Strikeforce GP each of these guys have fought each other before, but it goes deeper, this is like a tournament made up exclusively of the Greg Jackson camp. These guys have grown up in the game together, beat each other, helped each other up after their thumbs failed them, they have developed friendships that have grown beyond the game. Now they will compete against each other when the stakes are at their highest, the joy of each mates victory shall be met by the agony of one of their owns defeat, but it must be done, it is the only path to the title and in wartime, there are no friends. Who said videogames weren’t real?
