Chael Sonnen ponders the question if Dana White would allow Jon Jones to box Tyson Fury.

As Francis Ngannou – the former UFC heavyweight champion – is a free agent and in talks to box, Sonnen wonders if White would try and screw Ngannou by offering up Jones instead. Ngannou has been vocal about wanting to box Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury and Sonnen thinks White could hand over Jones and both men would take that fight instead of Ngannou.

Sonnen Thinks Jones is the Bigger Fight

“What do you think about doing Tyson vs. Jon Jones instead? I think Tyson would say ‘oh my God, of course, I like that idea better.’ Jon Jones is the world champion,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “He is the number one (pound-for-pound fighter). Of course, I’d rather have Jon, but I can’t have Jon he’s under contract with you. But, you know what, ‘I’ve kind of loosened up on this boxing thing, I think he has something special there.’ We will have to work out some co-promote where I’ll loan him out or work out some fee with the company. It’s really important you understand the order of this.

“Nobody is popping up with Francis vs. fill-in-the-blank. Nobody, nobody, nobody,” Sonnen continued. “They will call Dana first, Dana says fine it’s cool again, he won’t counter-program him, probably isn’t going to show up to their event but he will appreciate it to a level. But, if he said, ‘why don’t you take Jones instead?’ I don’t think you understand the difference in business there… Wouldn’t you rather have him? Do you understand how fast this house of cards falls.”

Although Chael Sonnen is pondering the question of that, it seems highly unlikely Dana White would offer up Jon Jones to box Tyson Fury. The UFC president has been vocal in saying he isn’t interested in these boxing matches anymore and ‘Bones’ is likely to defend his heavyweight belt against Stipe Miocic this summer. But, Sonnen does think this is a way White could try and screw Ngannou one last time.
