Can I Kick It: The UFC 178 Walkout Songs

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson walked to the cage in an official Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare walkout t-shirt. Like the preteen online Call of Duty stone cold killer who constantly snipes you to death while he laughs at your pitiful Xbox handling skills, Johnson has used advanced mixed martial arts tactics to run roughshod over the UFC’s 125 pound division since 2012.

At UFC 178 Johnson was dude who plays CoD 20 hours days and has a large whiteboard in his basement with high level military strategies scribbled on them. Challenger Chris Cariaso played the role of the guy who dug Wolfenstein 3D on his PC as a kid and sometimes fires up first-person shooter on his dusty Xbox 360.

From the moment T.I.’s hit single “Go Get It” hit the MGM Grand Garden Arena speakers, Johnson walked to the cage with the singular purpose of not only retaining his UFC belt but winning in a heart pounding fashion that would silence his critics. The 28 year old Johnson will never walkout to the Mighty Mouse theme song. Johnson is a go getter on the highest level.

In part because of his tireless work ethic and in part because of his longtime Xbox sponsorship, Johnson has transformed into a two quad-core fighting machine with potential to knockout or submit his opposition at a 1.75 GHz rate.

Facing an uphill battle against a dominant champion, Cariaso turned to the words of hip hop prophet DMX in his time of need. “Lord Give Me a Sign” put Cariaso in the frame of mind to try and pull off the upset.

Thanks to the power of Johnson’s striking, Cariaso’s upset bid quickly turned a ruff ryde right through the center of the Xbox marketplace. Johnson cracked Cariaso with an overhand right in round one and finished off the California fighter with a kimura midway through round two.

The unquestioned best 125 pound fighter on the planet, Johnson’s career path is paved in gold; UFC championship gold and most likely an Xbox Live gold membership at a heavily discounted monthly rate.

Making his first appearance on UFC pay per view main card, Conor McGregor is the only fighter out of the 500 Zuffa employs that could pull off not one but two walkout songs. Who else gets two walkout tracks?!? Props to McGregor’s agent for sneaking the “dual song” clause into his last fight contract.

The Chieftains ballad “The Foggy Dew” about mourning and freedom seamlessly transitioned into The Notorious B.I.G.’s hip anthem of flashing the high life and mocking your enemies for yet another chapter in the rise of Irish prize fighter Conor McGregor.

Here is something Dominick Cruz can’t understand. Off three year layoff Dominick Cruz now pretty much understands every single aspect of cage fighting. In the buffet of MMA skills Cruz is fat, happy, and casually placed some honey butter dinner rolls into his messenger bag for a snack once he gets home.

Off Cypress Hill’s debut album “How I Could Just Kill a Man” was the tri-fold pamphlet that helped Cruz knockout Takeya Mizugaki into a parallel universe.

Inside this parallel universe after UFC on VS Live 6, Cruz never gets injured and is an unstoppable king on top the UFC’s bantamweight division. Renan Baro title reign is mute and he never gets to show off his post-fight dance skills he has carefully choreographed with the rest of Nova Uniao. In Cruz’s new timeline, T.J Dillashaw isn’t the UFC’s 135 pound champion and Team Alpha Male nearly disbands when the crew argues constantly over whether the Naughty by Nature or the Bell Biv DeVoe mixtape should be used at their next pool party.

Cruz’s Cypress Hill based world is a dangerous timeline but it always has a nice bass line to nod to.
