The UFC really is planning a 115 lb female division

He said it would never happen, and it has. No, not Fedor being signed to the UFC. I think Dan Henderson firmly ensured that wouldn’t happen. I’m talking about women competing inside the Octagon. The UFC introduced a women’s division at 135lbs back in December 2012 and while it’s been pretty awesome so far, we’ve seen a number of women fighting far above their normal fighting weight in order to compete in the UFC which is admirable but not really ideal.

Look, we know it would be awesome to see the female Cyborg in the UFC but the most stacked divisions are at 135lbs and below. You’d be forgiven for expecting a 125lb division to be the next addition but no, Dana exclusively told “The Fighter and the Kid” podcast that the next addition to the UFC would be a 115lb women’s division.

“I’ll give you guys something nobody knows yet. We’re actually working on bringing in another division for the women, which I said would never happen for a long time,”

When asked if it would be 125lbs or 145lbs Dana replied

“Neither . . . 115 pounds”

That means we will most likely see some of the most exciting female talent in all of MMA inside the UFC and Dana will be competing head to head with Invicta and Shannon Knapp. Whatever happens, I’m just excited about the prospect of seeing Jo Calderwood in the UFC.
